The first issue of The New York Times was published on September 18, 1851. This inaugural edition began as the New-York Daily Times and appeared in print at 113 Nassau Street in New York City. The paper’s founders were Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones, and it later became The New York Times after changes in its name and branding.[2][7]
