Russia has announced that its two-seat Su-57 jet will operate using onboard combat AI. Russia labeled this new twin-seat version the Su-57D. Military leaders developed the plane to compete with Western fifth-generation fighters. However, the Russian fleet of Su-57 jets is still limited.

Meanwhile, a small European country currently operates twice as many fifth-generation fighters as Russia. The gap in aircraft numbers remains despite Russian intentions to incorporate combat AI systems into the Su-57D. Simple Flying and MiGFlug highlighted the modest fleet numbers together with the planned artificial intelligence features.
