Stargazers can now spot the earliest Perseid meteors ahead of the main event. The light show peaks in mid-August next year. First glimpses will be a struggle, however. The luminous moon now washes out soft lights. Go for darker hours near the climax. The best views come from dark sky spots off the beaten path. Clear nights could show up to a hundred meteors hourly at the height of activity.
