A Hellenic Air Force F-4 Phantom came down and caught fire at the Athens Flying Week airshow on 5 September 2026. Both pilots lost their lives. The jet went down during a aerobatic display, in front of a crowd of spectators.
The aircraft had been flying in a routine airshow sequence when it fell from the sky. Witnesses described seeing the jet lose control before impacting the ground and catching fire.
Greece declared military mourning after the crash. The loss of both crew members drew an outpouring of grief across the country. Officials confirmed the crash and said an investigation would follow.
