Equinor has flagged that the United Kingdom risks becoming "uninvestable" if North Sea projects Jackdaw and Rosebank are blocked. The Norwegian energy company's chief executive questioned whether future investment in the UK could continue if drilling approvals are denied, drawing attention from the BBC, The Times, and the Financial Times.
The warning puts pressure on UK energy policy at a time when the government is considering the future of North Sea development. Blocking the two projects, Equinor suggested, would send a troubling signal about the country's openness to large-scale energy investment.
Separately, Equinor published a quarterly update on 7 October 2026 saying its trading profit will come in above expectations for the third quarter. Reuters broke the news ahead of the company's scheduled financial results.
