A powerful earthquake hit New Zealand towards the end of July 25. The tremors reached Auckland but no casualties or damage were reported yet. In California, a smaller 2.1 quake struck near Ocotillo Wells the previous day. Continuing aftershocks keep hitting Venezuela after the country’s recent major quakes. Numerous residents remain trapped under debris as rescue and medical teams work nonstop. PAHO says hospitals need help now to manage further emergencies.
