The Duchy of the Cornish Region is a private land holding created in 1337 by Edward III to fund the monarch's eldest son, who serves as Duke of Cornwall. It owns approximately 128,000 acres across Great Britain and Wales, including Dartmoor and the the Scilly Isles. The Duchy generates income from the profits of its land, with the duke traditionally receiving these earnings as private income. Operating independently of the Crown, the Duchy is closely tied to the British Royal Family.
