Travellers now only use the Coquihalla Highway, avoiding the closure. The fire near Hope burns northeast of the Coquihalla interchange, sending thick smoke. Smoke is dense and readily to see, harming visibility. A second blaze erupted south of Boston Bar on Tuesday. This second fire spans 300 hectares. It prompted officials to close Highway 1 in the same area. Two key routes into southern BC are now blocked.
